Computer tune-up and optimization services

Every computer eventually gets bogged down and needs a tune up. Our tune up process is unique and inludes a 20 point check as well as full optimization of the system. We can help you squeeze every ounce of performance from your Windows PC, regardless of how old it is.

First, we go through all the start up items in your computer. By now you havenoticed that your computer takes much longer to start up (boot up) and get up to full speed. The reason for that is simple. Overtime, software (which often installs without your permission) will clog up the start up items list. Toolbar pre-loaders, java pre-loader, updater applications such as Yahoo and Google updater, file sharing applications, instant messengers and numerous other modules can make your computer boot up process ten to twenty times slower. None of these applications need to load on start up, as you can click on the icon when you need them. Nevertheless, software makers want their application to be loaded at all times, so you are more likely to use them. The idea is great, but when you have Yahoo messanger, AOL messanger, MSN Messanger, MySpace IM, Skype, Limewire, Office, Dell or HP support, Adaware and other applications loading at the same time, your computer takes very long to start up. In addition, all of these applications are eating away at the available memory, reducing the amount that your system can use for caching (remembering things that you often use, so they don't have to be loaded from the hard drive every time). We carefully go through the list, eliminating these items. We have the experience, and we know what can and can't be removed.

Keep in mind that Windows itself loads a numer of modules that people never user. There are 15-30 so called "services" that can be safely removed. For instance, web publishing service, terminal services, time synchronization, help and support center just to name a few are the services that most people never use. We disable those based on users level of computer knoweledge and the environment where the computer is used.

Visual enchancements is another major component of Windows that can influence the performance. Windows spends an enormous amount of time drawing the user inteface (what you see on the screen). Turning off gradients and translucent windows can make as much as 10% difference in the performance. Turning off the rest of visual opimizations and maing windows look plain and gray (wallpaper does not decrease performance) can enchance the speed by up to 30%.

Occasionally, your computer performance is also effected by lack of physical memory (RAM) which is perhaps the most critical resource needed for proper PC operation. If you need additional memory, we will advise you, and perform the upgrade if needed.

If you have not performed regular maintenance, behind on updates etc., we will perform that for you as a part of optimization.

There are many other tweaks and adjustments that we do during an optimization and tune up. Please call us at 586-744-4814 to find out more or to schedule a tune up.
